This tall, elegant, stoneware jug was inspired by those used for libations in the ancient world. It has delicate curled details on the handle and has has been finished in a smooth satin blue glaze inspired by the ancient Egyptians. There are lovely mottled variations in the flowing surface where the blue meets the liner glaze.

The colour, they discovered thousands of years ago , is thought to be the first synthetic pigment, made from a compound of locally found minerals, including copper carbonate…. its a magnificent , almost luminous colour, and was sacred to the ancient Egyptians, associated with the sky and the river Nile , and symbolised the universe, creation and fertility.

The vase is lined with creamy satin white glaze….
